What's your story?

I’ve always been serious about my health; I’m a runner, vegan, and fitness instructor . So, in December 2012, when I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease, my only question was whether I was would ever run another marathon. Not only was the answer no, but I was also told my quality of life would end in 5 years For 3 years I let the disease consume me. I stopped doing things I loved, like travel and running. Then a close friend of mine suggested that I live my life pretending I didn’t have the disease. I took her words to heart and ran the NYC marathon in 2015. I started taking back my life. Parkinson’s may steal my future, but I’m no longer going to allow it to take my today.

What makes you nervous about having your portrait taken?

Photographs are a record of one nanosecond in time that can forever be used to compare other photos. Each time a photo is snapped, I’m compelled to make it the best moment of my life so far

Can I share your photos?

Yes! Please share them. Your photographs are magic !

What do you love doing that makes you feel kick ass?

I love racing. When I do well, I am on top of the world.

What inspired your portraits?

One aspect of Parkinson’s is an expressionless face, known as the Parkinson’s mask. This symptom doesn’t happen to everyone, but I want proof that I did smile if that happens to me.

What bad ass women inspire you?

I have known 2 amazing women who run despite some serious life hurdles. Together the 3 of us are the Crazy Bad Ass Running Goddesses. Sadly, one of the CBARGs passed away last year due to lymphoma so now there are just the two of us.
