What's your story?
No story. Just a snapshot of my life....
My name is Emily. I have a pretty awesome family: Brian (dad, husband), Matilda (daughter, comedian), Lucinda (daughter athlete), Josephine (daughter, and well she’s a lot). I am a speech language pathologist for some amazing preschoolers by day and mommy all the time. I am a true nature lover and spend most of my time outside. I am a trail runner. I am a mountain biker. I am a gardener.
This January I received a hard diagnosis of melanoma on my back- even all the sunscreen in the world could not stop this. I was devastated. How could I change my ways and stay inside? After surgery and appointments with my oncologist, I have come back with a vengeance to beat this. Sunscreen, shade and even more precautions.

What makes you nervous about having your portrait taken?
I was not nervous because our dear friend Lisa wanted to do it with me. Having supportive friends (and family) throughout my life have gotten me through many rough times. I am so lucky!

Can I share some of your images? Yes
What do you love doing that makes you feel kick ass? Trail running, mountain biking and being a mom. They all involve endurance, love, tears, sweat, strength, grit, resilience, and MUD!

What inspired your portraits? My melanoma and friendship.

What bad ass women inspire you? I do not have one woman to thank but many- my girls, sisters(love you El and Stac!) , cousins(#cousinpower for real), my mom, aunts, grandmothers, friends, family, neighbors, and many many coworkers. I am so lucky to have strong women around me all the time! Thank you! I feel so loved.
Any Other Comments? Thank you Jen! This project is amazing!
