What's your story?
I come from rural Ohio, but found myself eventually calling Cleveland home. I grew up wanting to be vet, then a doctor, then a neuroscientist or a film professor, but eventually I fell into UX (user experience)/UI (user interface) design. This profession just so happens to perfectly combine my interests of art and science to create functional and purposeful software products for all kinds of people. I must thank the wonderful mentors and opportunities I've had along the way. Without these mentors I don't think I would be where I am today. It's because of them that I approach my work and life with a balance of kindness and passion. Speaking of life, mine includes seeing the world with my boyfriend/partner in life, constantly giving treats and love to our giant Irish Wolfhound, and a number of random unrelated hobbies. Making homemade cards, running, gardening, listening to podcasts, and trying to stay balanced and mindful. Remember to be kind, listen more, and love yourself.
What makes you nervous about having your portrait taken?
That what I see vs. what the camera picks up won't match.
What do you love doing that makes you feel kick ass?
Running! Sure, it's not always easy to get out of bed or go out after a long day at work but when I'm out there I feel like it's me against the world. Running helped me get and stay healthy. It's really empowered me to love myself and know that I can do anything if I try.
What inspired your portraits?
David Lynch? Jen had a wacky idea that my bathroom was basically from a David Lynch movie so we needed to capture that weird surreal look, and boy did we.
What bad ass women inspire you?
Oh man! So many! How do I pick one? My mom and grandma have inspired me to work hard and never give up. My "Columbus Mom" has encouraged me to always take care of myself, get out and see the world, and value friendship. In terms of awesome famous ladies I've never met but that are bad asses taking on the world: HRC, RBG, Serena Williams, Des Linden, Tig Notaro, Ava DuVerney, Michelle Obama, and Chrissy Teigen.
Any Other Comments?
This is an amazing project! Go Jen! Also, I want every lady to get out there, do what you love, and enjoy the ride wherever it takes you!
